Bengaluru, June 29: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) and Bengaluru City Police have jointly dismantled a massive drug network that was supplying narcotics from neighbouring states and foreign countries, specifically targeting the city's youth. In this mega operation conducted across the city, drugs worth more than Rs 25 crore were seized and 17 notorious peddlers arrested, including three foreign nationals. Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh confirmed that kilograms of MDMA crystals and cannabis were recovered from the accused.
The CCB Narcotics Wing made the single biggest haul of the entire operation. Three Nigerian drug peddlers who were smuggling MDMA crystals concealed inside luggage bags — without raising suspicion — were arrested. A total of 10 kg 270 grams of MDMA crystals worth Rs 21 crore was seized from them.
The accused had rented a house in Bailakonahalli, under the limits of Madanayakanahalli police station, and were using it as their base of operations. They sourced drugs through contacts in Nigeria and distributed them to college students and IT employees across the city. Investigations revealed they had entered India on medical and tourist visas, and had been living in Bengaluru illegally even after their visas expired.
In a separate raid, Madivala police arrested a man named Dastagiri alias Dastu, who was transporting 36 kg of cannabis from Odisha in an Indigo car. Previously involved in vehicle theft cases, he had reinvented himself as a drug peddler. Cannabis worth Rs 18 lakh was seized from him.
This joint operation has laid bare how deeply entrenched the drug network is in Bengaluru. All arrested accused are currently under intensive interrogation, and police have stepped up efforts to identify and apprehend the main kingpins behind the entire network.
