Karnataka Weather: Rain to Continue for Three More Days, Red Alert for Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru; Schools Shut in Several Districts

Bengaluru, August 3: The southwest monsoon has intensified across Karnataka, and rain is likely to continue for the next three days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, rainfall is expected across several districts of the state — including Bengaluru — through August 7, with heavier showers predicted for coastal Karnataka and the Malnad region.

Districts including Bengaluru, Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagara, Tumakuru, and Chikkaballapur are likely to receive heavy rain. Belagavi, Dharwad, and Haveri have also been placed under a heavy rain forecast. Several districts in the North Interior — Bagalkot, Bidar, Gadag, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, and Vijayapura — are expected to see light to moderate rain.

Heavy Rain in Coastal and Malnad Regions

Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts are likely to experience heavy rain accompanied by winds gusting at 30–40 km/h. A red alert has been issued for Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts, which are forecast to receive very heavy rainfall. Kodagu, Hassan, and several other South Interior districts will also see rain.

Bengaluru Urban and Rural, Chamarajanagara, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, and Vijayanagara are all under rain forecast.

Schools Closed in Multiple Districts

As heavy rain continues in the Malnad belt of Chikkamagaluru district, primary and high schools in Koppa and Shringeri taluks have been declared closed today. District Commissioner Bhanwar Singh Meena issued the order. The district administration has also warned the public not to approach the banks of the Tunga River, which is flowing above the danger level.

In Dakshina Kannada district, schools within the Mangaluru sub-division have been given a holiday in view of the heavy rain forecast. Schools up to high school level in Mangaluru, Ullal, Moodbidri, Bantwal, and Mulki taluks are closed. In Puttur, Belthangady, Kadaba, and Sulya taluks, classes up to the Pre-University College (PUC) level have been suspended.

In Shivamogga district, schools in Sagar and Thirthahalli taluks are closed today as heavy rain continues to lash the area.
